Organization In IUSTITIA extends its legal counseling service during Prague Pride
In IUSTITIA has been in the long term engaged in the support of people exposed to homophobia and other types of hate violence. The organization will actively take part in Prague Pride 2011 during all four days of the event. Its employees will enjoy it both as participants and legal service providers. The service of In IUSTITIA will be extended with non stop phone consultations (hot line: 777187881). From Thursday August 11th until Sunday August 14th lawyers will also be available for personal meetings in Qcafé (Opatovická 12, Praha 1).
„A research from 2008 indicates that 11% of Czech women and men were physically attacked due to their sexual orientation. Thus, we cannot neglect the fact that hate incidents may also occur during the Prague Pride. We will be happy if our service is not required, however, we want Pride participants to be sure whom to contact for advice and assistance if needed. Of course we have been providing such legal help already and we will definitely keep on doing it in the future. Nonetheless, considering the exceptionality of the situation, we decided to increase our accessability and operativeness in these days“ said Klára Kalibová, director and lawyer of In IUSTITIA .
The protection from homophobic violence is not sufficient in the Czech Republic. Czech criminal law does not enunciate hate crimes motivated by sexual orientation of the victim. „Our aim is to enforce the changes in the criminal code as well as in the attitude of police officers investigating hate crimes motivated by homophobia and transphobia“, added Kalibová.
